Temporomandibular disorders (TMD), commonly referred to as TMJ dysfunction, can involve the jaw joint, surrounding muscles and other related structures.
TMJ physiotherapy may be appropriate for symptoms such as:
- Jaw pain or stiffness
- Clicking, popping or locking
- Difficulty or pain with opening the mouth
- Pain with chewing or talking
- Facial pain or tension
- Clenching or grinding
- Headaches associated with jaw symptoms
- Neck pain or stiffness
Assessment considers the jaw, surrounding muscles and neck when relevant. Treatment may include manual therapy, exercise, education, self-management strategies and intra-oral treatment when appropriate and with your consent.
